Choosing the Right Turf
A variety of turf blends are available. Each contains a mix of different grass species, and each species brings different characteristics. We’ll choose a mix likely to establish well in the particular location. If conditions vary across the garden, we may recommend several different mixes. To ensure freshness and quality, we buy turf only from suppliers we know and trust. Neglected turf can quickly start to look as bad as the grass it replaced. We’ll explain how best to mow and water, and recommend a programme of ongoing treatments designed to keep the lawn in peak condition.
Ground Preparation
Turf laying success relies on preparing the ground thoroughly. Our ground preparation includes clearing all existing vegetation, aerating the soil to remove compaction, and applying pre-turfing fertiliser to support root development. If possible, give yourself a few weeks to prepare the area for your lawn before you lay turf. The more effort you put into preparation, the better the end result will be. The best time for laying turf in the garden is in Spring, when growth will be optimum and mid-autumn, when the soil is still warm from the summer, but the weather is cool and wet.
